Peter Fury believes Tyson Fury must face a significant test if he decides to have one more fight before his planned showdown with Anthony Joshua.
Fury returned to the ring earlier this year after spending all of 2025 in retirement. In April, he outpointed Arslanbek Makhmudov over 12 rounds, and a long-awaited clash with Joshua is now expected later this year.
With some fans questioning whether Fury should have another fight before meeting Joshua, Peter Fury said there would be little value in a soft touch.
“Well, definitely someone who is durable and can hit back because a walk in the park doesn’t achieve anything,” Peter Fury told talkSPORT Boxing when discussing a possible interim opponent for Tyson.
“The only thing you get out of that is a ring walk and say right, I’ve got to get back in the ring, that’s it.”
Peter didn’t name any specifics, but made it clear that he believes any opponent should be able to resist and force Fury to stay sharp ahead of the Joshua fight.
The former heavyweight champion is coming off a unanimous decision win over Makhmudov in his comeback bout and could make another comeback before facing Joshua.
Joshua is also preparing for a return to the ring. The two-time heavyweight champion will face Kristian Prenga on July 25 as he looks to build momentum towards a potential showdown with Fury.
If Fury does decide to fight before then, Peter Fury’s view is straightforward: there is little point in taking on an opponent who offers no challenge.
“A walk in the park achieves nothing,” said Peter Fury. “Definitely someone who is durable and can fight back.”
