More from the MotoGP press release:
González dominates Balaton on Friday, with Vietti heading into Q1. The Moto2 title race leader takes double P1 on the opening day, with Alonso sitting P2, his third VTT in the championship failing to finish in 14th.
As Friday went, it was good for Manuel Gonzalez (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Inact GP) at Balaton Park. The Spaniard was 0.2 seconds faster than David Alonso (CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team) in 2nd place, with Philipp Salach (Only Fans USA Racing Team) 0.3 ahead, setting a new all-time lap record in the Moto2 title race at 1:40.229.
The big news from Moto2’s Practice session was that Celestino Vietti (MB Conveyors SpeedRS Team) lost a place in the top 14, with the Italian sitting in the box in the closing stages which seemed to be the problem. Back-to-back P2 finishes, and the rider sitting third in the overall standings, have work to do on Saturday.
A late lap Brazilian podium finish from Daniel Munoz (Italtrans Racing Team) secured P4 on Day 1 in Hungary, while top Boscoscuro honors went to rookie Alberto Ferrandez (BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2) in P5.
Izan Guevara (BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2) had a tough day at the office after his off-lap crash in FP1, but the rider in the title chase will be in Q2 after P11 on Friday. However, more will be needed from Gonzalez’s closest challengers heading into the weekend.
