So far, the TaylorMade Spider is the hottest player of 2026. As of June 1, eight PGA Tour events were won with TaylorMade Spiders. That’s double the number of wins for any other player.
Since PGA Tour earnings often translate into retail sales, it’s a little wild for TayorMade not to have a new version of their Spider in golf shops.
That changes today with the release of the new TaylorMade Spider Tour Burnt Shooting Line. The line features a fresh finish and an ideal combination of adding new design changes and retaining the elements that made the Spider Tour so successful.
A new “burnt” finish.
The PVD finish will undoubtedly be the first thing people notice about it New Spider Tour Burnt Putters. The inspiration for the finish came from Rory McIlroy’s burnout Spider Tour X. It’s a solid marketing move to make these look like McIlroy’s Masters-winning Spider.
Unfortunately, burning thousands of retailers isn’t really logistically possible. As such, TaylorMade had to mimic the burnished look with a PVD finish.
So the paws aren’t actually burned, but the finish makes them look like they were.
It’s a very rich and interesting finish. Generally, the color is a mixture of chocolate and bronze. However, the intensity of the color varies depending on the shape of the head. Nooks and crannies produce subtle purple hues and shift the finish between matte and glossy.
The finish also changes appearance dramatically with light level. It is much more bronze in the sun than indoors.
Like I said, it’s a very interesting ending. I can see it being a bit polarizing as it’s a departure from the classic black or silver shot choice. Hopefully, buyers will be able to take it outside to see how fresh it looks under natural light.
The History of the Burning Center of Gravity by Spider Tour
There is another story beneath the new finish that many golfers may completely miss. of Spider Tour models they are all unequivocally hammer hammer. However, due to differences in the location of the center of gravity, they do not all play the same and will not suit the same players.
The classic Spider Tour was all about putting weights in the back corners. of Turched Spider Tour retains this weighting scheme with its single weight mounted all the way to the rear corners.
When you look at the other three models, you’ll see the weights creep toward the front of the thrower.
At one time, Spider Tour X the weights were built into the periphery of the thrower. Now they are on the sole and more straight forward. The Spider F weights are further forward and the Spider V weights are all the way to the front.
As the weights move forward, so does the center of gravity. Most importantly, the further forward the center of gravity, the more the shooter feels like a blade rather than a sledgehammer.
This means that the Spider Tour has the most hammer-like feel and Spider V the most blade-like sensation.
They all share Spider Tour burned name but they are very different inserts. I know I always recommend rotating everything in the store, but it’s especially important for this line. I bet you’ll like the feel of one or two models and won’t really be put off by the others.
TPU PureRoll insert
Although it may not get the credit it deserves, I believe the introduction of the PureRoll contributes greatly to the Spider’s success. The insert delivers the expected torque with incredible feel. This seems important to me.
It is impossible to determine the exact reason why the Spider has proven to be so successful, but I have no doubt that it would be less successful without the PureRoll insert.
TaylorMade Spider Tour Torched putter models
of 2026 The TaylorMade Spider Tour Burnt putter includes four distinct head shapes. The actual model number is much higher as three of the four heads come with optional neck and stretch options.
As with weight position, your hitting needs will likely dictate the neck option that works best for you.
of Classic Spider Tournament should be a staple of any Spider line. Apparently, this is the model that started the whole Spider phenomenon when Jason Day and Dustin Johnson tore up the Tour with their red and black steep-neck versions.
of Spider tournament it has a more rearward center of gravity and should feel more similar to the group hammer. The standard version is available in sloped-neck and L-neck models. Interestingly, the sloped neck features the TruePath alignment scheme and the L-neck has a single long line for aiming.
Technically, Spider Tour Torched Counterbalanced Model it’s just a build variant of the Spider Tour. I wanted to include it as a separate model for a few reasons.
First of all, you can see what the Spider Tour looks like with the TruePath alignment scheme. Remember that TruePath first appeared with the Spider Tour X. It was added to later Spider Tour models.
This is also the balance of the face Spider Tour model. The back neck makes this model fit by setting the shot with minimal bow.
Although this is a counterbalanced model, it is built to a traditional length. While many counterbalanced stocks are built to 38 inches, the stock length for this one is 35. That means you won’t have three or more inches of shaft on your hands when you get your traditional grip.
This was my favorite surprise of the bunch. Overall, it feels a bit heavy, but it feels so normal in my hands. I still haven’t found my “it” 38″ counterbalanced model, but I dig this 35″ CB Spider.
Do not neglect this in the store.
of Spider Tour X is the other classic Spider design. It feels like the Spider Tour’s little brother, but has produced big Tour wins (and resulting sales) for TaylorMade. Although I wasn’t a fan of the new weight plan at first, I’ve warmed to it.
Moving the weights forward created a putter that suits a different player than the Spider Tour. With the original weight design, the difference between the Spider Tour and Spider Tour X it was mostly aesthetic.
New weight plan changes CG and now Spider Tour X fits a different stroke.
Is this a significant design change? It’s possible that McIlroy will lose a few kisses with the old design that he has with the new one and will continue to chase his green jacket.
There are four Spider Tour X models: three with TruePath (L-neck, sloped, double-curve neck) and one L-neck with a long single line.
Fang-shaped spiders are nothing new to TaylorMade. of 2020 Spider S putter it was a fang-shaped pattern. Everyone Spider GT AND GTX the lines were basically fang tips with turtle tips.
of Spider Tour F has a traditional fang shape. She looks like him New TaylorMade SYSTM2 Bandon lay down quite a bit.
The weight position gives the Spider Tour Torched F the second most forward CG position. The choice of neck will dictate how much you want the blade to feel. If you want more of a jackhammer feel, go with the double twist shaft. The L neck will add toe hang and feel more like a blade.
of Spider Tour Torched V is the most similar of Spiders. It looks like a hammer, but the forward CG and L neck will make it feel like a blade.
If you can, flip the L-neck versions of the Spider Tour and Spider Tour V side by side. They feel like very different players because they are very different players. The general construction components are the same, but the adjustments make them different.
Think Chevy Corvette versus Chevy Silverado. Same materials and company, very different cars.
Of all the Spider models, Spider Tour V probably suits the more specific player. This player wants a blade thrower with some of the reach and stability of a hammer.
That might explain why Spider Tour Torched V only available with an L neck.
Will the release of the TaylorMade Spider Tour Torched catch fire?
TaylorMade isn’t afraid to mix things up with it their Spider line releases. Some of them, like the Spider Tour X, end up being big hits. Other Spider variants are not as popular and end up disappearing from the lineup.
Which end of the popularity spectrum will it be Spider Tour Burnt Line do we finish?
I believe this line will do well. The only possible consumer interruption is termination. If the conclusion is widely rejected, the line is doomed. That’s why I really hope people get a chance to see it out. It looks much better in natural light.
Ignoring the conclusion, Spider Tour Burnt Line is one of the most complete Spider lines that TaylorMade has released. Spider Tour and Spider Tour X are perennial popular choices. The Spider F and Spider V are models that should appeal to players moving from blade gauges to hammers.
In today’s market where $600 throwers have become commonplace, the $349.99 MSRP adds some heat to the release as well.
If the finish clicks with the consumer, the TaylorMade Spider Tour Torched gauges will be the hottest putters of the summer season.
