Lamont Roach Jr. and William Zepeda will fight for the vacant WBC Lightweight Championship on August 1st at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The fight will headline the launch of TNT Sports and DAZN’s new monthly boxing series, “The Fight.”
Roach enters the fight after consecutive high-profile appearances above his natural weight class. The former WBA super featherweight champion fought Gervonta Davis to a controversial majority draw in March 2025 and later fought Isaac Cruz to another majority draw at 140 pounds. Now he has a chance to win a world title at lightweight.
“This is my fourth straight world title fight coming up in a different weight class,” said Roach. “No doubt, I’m bringing boxing back, and I’m coming for the top spot.”
Zepeda gets a second crack at a full world title after losing a unanimous decision to Stevenson in his most recent fight. The Mexican pressure fighter remains one of the division’s top contenders and has wins over Tevin Farmer, Joseph Diaz Jr., Maxi Hughes and Rene Alvarado.
“We’ve been working hard since my last fight,” Zepeda said. “Once again we have been given the opportunity to fight for a world championship, and we are ready to show the world exactly who ‘El Camarón’ Zepeda is.”
The fight pits two fighters who put on strong performances against elite opposition. Roach earned praise for his performance against Davis, while Zepeda enhanced his reputation despite falling short against Stevenson.
Additional undercard bouts are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets go on sale on June 5.
