Gervonta Davis publicly mocked Richardson Hitchins after the former IBF junior welterweight champion shared a post showing appreciation for Shakur Stevenson.
A screenshot that circulated on social media showed Gervonta commenting on Hitchins’ Instagram post, writing:
“Your ass the biggest”
The exchange quickly drew attention from boxing fans, many of whom pointed out that Tank Davis and Hitchins were once close.
When Hitchins goes out of his way to praise Shakur Stevenson, who just shook up the division by beating Teofimo Lopez, it’s a direct trigger for Gervonta. He and Shakur have been circling each other for a long time, so any ally of yours praising your main rival is going to feel like a betrayal.
The fact that Tank and Hitchins used to be tight makes it cut a little deeper. Tank reportedly helped him with cash and connections at the time, so seeing Hitchins publicly fanboy over Shakur probably feels like total disrespect. Tank essentially calls him a power rider with that “biggest (fan/rider)” comment.
The funniest part of the whole situation is how quickly Hitchins deleted the post once Tank appeared in the comments. It tells you everything you need to know about the dynamic. It might not lead to a fight in the ring any time soon, as Hitchins is locked in for his Zuffa Boxing debut on July 26, but that old friendship is all but dead.
While there’s no indication that Tank and Hitchins are headed for a fight, the latest social media shot highlighted how far their relationship has deteriorated from the days when Davis was considered one of Hitchins’ biggest supporters.
