Adam Azim calls for IBF title fight after Claggett KO

Adam Azim wants to fight for the IBF super lightweight title after stopping veteran Steve Claggett in three rounds on Saturday night.

The showcase win delivered the result Azim and his team were looking for. Attention quickly turned to the next step in his career and the developing title picture at 140 pounds.

“If I can get a fight with Delgado for the IBF world title, bring it on. I want him,” Azim told Boxing King Media.

Azim admitted he is unsure what comes next as he waits for the 140-pound title picture to become clearer.

“You know what? I don’t really know what’s going to happen now,” he said. “If I can get a fight with Delgado for the IBF world title, bring it on. I want him.”

The performance drew praise from some observers after stopping Azim Claggett in three rounds despite expectations that the durable veteran would last much longer.

One prediction that caught Azim’s attention came from Teofimo Lopez, who reportedly expected a much closer fight.

“I have a lot of respect for him, but I’m going to tell him, I can’t believe you actually thought I was going to win on a majority decision, but I did,” Azim said. “But you know what? Dalton Smith told me I was going to punch him or stop him. Thanks, Dalton Smith, for saying that.”

Azim can ask for a title shot, but the front of the line is already occupied. Delgado and Artur Biyarslanov will fight for the vacant IBF belt, leaving Azim on the outside looking in. His task now is simple: keep beating the opposition put in front of him and make himself impossible to ignore when the next opening appears.
