Ryan Garcia Tells Rolly Romero “Let’s Get It Going”

Ryan Garcia says Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero has no excuse to remain inactive after beating him earlier this year, arguing that champions need to move quickly instead of waiting around for payday fights.

Garcia made the comments while discussing the mistakes he believes he made in his loss to Rolly, admitting he accepted the fight while physically compromised and motivated by money.

“I wasn’t in a good place at all. I was extremely overweight. I was laid off for a year. My body was just down, and I just took the money because, you know, I needed it,” Ryan told Complex News.

“I already knew about sparring, tried to train, and everything. I already had my doubts. It’s one of those things where you made a commitment, you signed the paper, you have to do it.”

Ryan still gave Rolly credit for seizing the opportunity, but he also questioned why the WBA welterweight champion hasn’t returned to the ring yet.

“No knock on Rollys. I’m glad he got the win. Now let’s see what he can do with it. It’s one thing to win. It’s another thing how far you can go with your own success,” said Ryan.

“I feel like I’ve already made another step forward. I fought Mario Barrios. He hasn’t fought yet. What is your hold? You are a world champion. Let’s get it going.”

Ryan also revealed that his anticipated September 12 fight against Conor Benn in Las Vegas still has unresolved details despite widespread reports that the bout is close to being done.

Garcia seems determined to stay active after capturing the WBC welterweight title from Barrios, and his comments suggested he wants the division to move faster than it has in recent years.
