Lazio secured a vital 2-1 win over struggling Pisa at the Stadio Olimpico, with Pedro and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru scoring in quick succession to secure all three points despite a spirited second-half comeback from the visitors.
Lazio went into the match in ninth place with 51 points from 37 games, looking to maintain momentum in their climb up the table. Pisa arrived in desperate form, sitting in 20th place with just 18 points and five consecutive defeats. The contrast in recent fortunes promised an outright win at home, but the visitors proved more resilient than their league position would suggest.
Stefano Moreo gave Pisa an early lead in the 23rd minute, firing past the Lazio defense to send the home crowd into shock. The goal looked like the hosts were getting into action. Within ten minutes, Lazio turned the game around with a clinical finish.
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru equalized in the 33rd minute, finding the net with a composed finish. Just two minutes later, Pedro doubled Lazio’s lead in the 35th minute, firing a shot past Pisa goalkeeper Adrian Å emper. The Spanish winger’s clinical attack seemed to have settled the game before the break.
Lazio’s defense looked vulnerable in the first half, with Pisa goalkeeper Å emper making seven saves to keep his side in the game. The home side dominated possession with 49 percent and created more clear-cut chances, but their lead remained precarious heading into the break.
In the second half, Pisa pressed harder, looking to exploit any defensive weaknesses. Lazio made tactical adjustments to protect their advantage, with midfielder Reda Belahyane anchoring the midfield. However, Pisa’s attacking efforts lacked the precision needed to trouble Lazio’s back line on a consistent basis.
Lazio’s attacking players continued to threaten on the break. Pedro remained dangerous despite playing 61 minutes before his substitution, creating chances with his movement and awareness. Dele-Bashiru worked tirelessly in midfield, completing 82 minutes in a solid all-round display.
Pisa’s Moreo remained a threat throughout, registering two shots on target in a laborious performance. However, the visitors struggled to create genuine scoring chances, with just two shots on target compared to Lazio’s nine. Å emper’s seven saves were not enough to earn a point.
Statistically, Lazio controlled the game with 536 passes with 88 percent accuracy. Expected goals favored Pisa by 1.55 to 1.01, suggesting the visitors created better chances but failed to convert them. Lazio’s defensive organization was decisive.
The win takes Lazio to 54 points from 38 games, keeping their top-half ambitions alive. Pisa’s defeat extends their winless streak and leaves them adrift dangerously close to the relegation zone with limited time to recover.
