Tyson Fury’s August comeback opponent is still undecided, but his manager Spencer Brown says Jarrell Miller and Andy Ruiz Jr. are now unlikely options as Team Fury look for a stronger opponent ahead of the planned Anthony Joshua fight later this year.
Brown said Fury wanted Miller for an August fight in America, but no longer believed there was enough time to complete it.
“Tyson will fight anybody, but he mentioned Jerell Miller. He would love to fight Jerell Miller in America. What a big fight in August, that kind of time before the Joshua fight. He wanted it, but I don’t think it’s going to happen now. I think it’s a virtual impossibility,” Brown told Pro Boxing Fans.
“I don’t think Andy’s in camp right now. So, he needs to get into a camp soon and do whatever he needs to do. I don’t think that’s a possibility.”
Brown said Team Fury wanted someone with a strong record and believed they were targeting a better opponent than the one Joshua faces on July 25, Kristian Prenga.
“We want an undefeated or maybe a one-loss fighter. We want someone with a very good record. We’re looking at a better opponent than Anthony Joshua has,” says Brown.
Brown said that Fury’s team did not want anything to interfere with the planned Joshua fight.
“Obviously we don’t want anything to happen to ruin the big event.”
While Fury’s team includes names such as Andy Ruiz Jr. and Jarrell Miller for an August date, Brown has already admitted they don’t want anything to happen that could ruin the planned Joshua fight later this year. Joshua also has his own summer booking against Kristian Prenga in July, making it clear that both sides are guarding the bigger event.
