Post-match review, full-time report and highlights

In a great performance at the Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo, Universidad Católica secured a 2-0 victory over Barcelona Guayaquil in the Copa Libertadores. The home side dominated possession and created plenty of chances, with Fernando Zampedri emerging as a standout player, scoring both goals in the latter stages of the game. Barcelona Guayaquil, reduced to ten men early on, struggled to cope with relentless pressure from their opponents throughout the game.

The game took a decisive turn after just ten minutes when Jhonnier Chalá was shown a red card following a VAR review, leaving Barcelona Guayaquil to defend with a numerical disadvantage. Despite their efforts to regroup, the visitors were unable to pose any major threat, managing just four shots, none of which were on target, while Universidad Católica poured in 31 attempts, nine of which tested the goalkeeper.

As the match progressed, Universidad Católica’s dominance became more and more evident. After a series of near misses, Zampedri finally broke the deadlock in the 77th minute with a well-placed header from a Matias Palavecino cross. Just seven minutes later, he doubled the lead, finishing off a move assisted by Clemente Montes, sealing a comfortable victory that showed the hosts’ offensive prowess and Barcelona’s defensive frailties.
