Mbilli says Canelo Alvarez is “getting old”

Christian Mbilli believes the timing could finally be right for someone to beat Canelo Alvarez.

Mbilli made it clear he still respects Alvarez and considers him one of the best fighters in the division, but he also believes age has started to catch up with the former undisputed super middleweight champion.

“Canelo is very old now. Canelo is not the same Canelo he was 10 years ago, five years ago,” Mbilli told Ring Magazine. “It’s normal. This guy has been professional since he was 15 years old. He’s not the same Canelo, but he’s still dangerous. He’s still a good fighter. I think he’s top three, top two in the division. He’s still a very good boxer.

“But right now he’s getting old. It’s a good time for me to fight.”

Mbilli said during an interview with The Ring while discussing a possible future fight against Alvarez. The undefeated contender has repeatedly pointed to his pressing style and activity level as reasons why he believes he can cause serious problems for the Mexican star.

“I don’t know if he can take my pressure and my punch now, because I throw a lot of punches, a lot of pressure, I put in a lot of energy,” says Mbilli. “I don’t know if he can take it now because he is getting very old.

“I think I can win. For me, I have a good chance to win if I fight Canelo because right now it’s time to take Canelo. It’s time for me to take Canelo because he’s getting old.”

Mbilli also described a fight with Alvarez as one of the biggest possible opportunities for his career.

“It will be a privilege to fight Canelo. I am open to everyone. To have a big name like Canelo, I will be very happy,” said Mbilli.
