Hearn Compares Xander Zayas to Young Canelo Before Boots Ennis

Eddie Hearn believes that Xander Zayas may be taking the same kind of risk that a young Saul Alvarez did when he defeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. fought Jaron Ennis early in his career.

“It feels a little bit like Mayweather-Canelo to me in a point of a young generation big probably rolling the dice a little too early,” Hearn said to tell us about that boxing channel.

“But that’s what made Canelo great is the fact that he took that kind of fight and had the balls to do it. So you have to respect Zayas and the fact that he’s willing to do it.

“Yeah. Yeah. Like, but you’ve got to have that confidence. Normally the team around you would be like, ‘whoa, whoa, whoa. Boots can come later. This kid’s a superstar, right? He just unified the division. He’s a good-looking kid. He’s well-spoken. He’s a great fighter.

“We’re all whining, aren’t we? ‘How are you going to get Boots a big fight?’ And I’m sitting there after the Ortiz stuff goes who? And this kid is stepping up, and that’s why I respect him so much,” Hearn said.

Hearn also said Ennis believes there are still levels fans haven’t seen yet and expects the fight to bring out a different side of him offensively.

“I mean, like he’s telling me I’m going to take this kid to pieces on June 27th,” Hearn said.

“And I’m also telling you there are so many more levels to Jaron Ennis that you haven’t even seen yet. You need a great fighter to bring that out of you.

“Stanionis brought it up a little bit because I thought it was an incredible performance. It was number one against number two. It was supposed to be a real tough fight. It was an absolute one-sided beating,” Hearn said.
