Keyshawn Davis says he still doesn’t know why a fight with Devin Haney never happened after discussions between the two camps earlier this year.
Davis talked about Haney after he dominated Nahir Albright over 12 rounds in their rematch Saturday night in Norfolk. Although Keyshawn won a wide unanimous decision over Albright, he admitted afterward that he was chasing bigger fights before the rematch was finalized.
“January, I walked up to Bill, and he told me to keep my word after the fight,” Keyshawn told the media afterward. “Why it didn’t happen, I don’t know.”
Davis also revealed that he tried to get fights against Lamont Roach Jr. and securing Oscar Duarte before returning against Albright.
“I was on the phone with Lamont Roach trying to make it happen,” Davis said. “I also tried to get in touch with Oscar Duarte.”
The Norfolk native made it clear after the fight that he sees the Albright rematch as a lesser option compared to the opponents he originally wanted.
“I wanted to fight a better opponent,” Davis said. “He’s actually a decent fighter. He’s just not at that top level.”
Davis dominated most of the rematch despite taking a two-count deduction after knocking Albright to the canvas during a seventh-round choke. He controlled the action with faster hands, cleaner combinations and stronger work late in the fight.
After the win, Davis reiterated that he is open to facing bigger names next.
“Whoever is willing to fight the businessman, let’s make it happen,” Davis said.
