Levante secured a dramatic 3-2 win at the Estadio Abanca-Balaídos, stunning Celta Vigo with two second-half goals to secure a decisive away win.
Celta Vigo dominated possession with 57% control, but Levante’s clinical finishing was decisive in a thrilling La Liga match on 12 May. The hosts went into the match sixth in the table with recent form reading WWLLL, while Levante sat in 19th place but arrived in better spirits after back-to-back wins.
Ferran Jutglà gave Celta an explosive start, which shot past the Llevant defense in just the fourth minute. The striker’s first goal suggested a comfortable afternoon for the home side. However, Levant responded with composure even though they were losing early.
Kervin Arriaga equalized for the visitors in the 43rd minute, equalizing before the break. The goal brought life to Levante’s campaign at a crucial time. Celta had created chances but failed to extend their advantage.
Jutglà restored Celta’s lead three minutes into the second half, scoring his second goal in the 48th minute. The striker’s brace seemed to have settled the game. However, the Levant refused to give up.
Adrián de la Fuente pulled one back for Levante in the 57th minute to make it 2-2. The goal caused a dramatic shift in momentum towards the visitors. Suddenly, Celta’s defense looked vulnerable.
Roger Brugué struck the decisive blow in the 63rd minute, dismissing Levante by 3-2. Brugué’s strike moved the traveling supporters. From that point on, Levante controlled the game despite Celta’s possession advantage.
The statistics illustrated Levante’s efficiency in front of goal. Celta managed a total of 12 shots with six on target, with an Expected Goals (xG) figure of 2.07. Llevant registered 14 shots in total with six on goal, accumulating 1.46 xG despite scoring three goals.
Jutglà earned the game’s highest rating of 8.3 for his two-goal performance. De la Fuente and Arriaga impressed for Levante with 8.2 and 7.7, respectively. Goalkeeper Mathew Ryan made four crucial saves to keep Levante in the game.
