Ahead of his rematch against Nahir Albright this Saturday, May 16 in Norfolk, Virginia, Keyshawn questioned Haney’s inactivity, saying the bigger fights attached to his name still haven’t materialized.
“Yeah, honestly, yeah, I want to fight Devin Haney for sure. Like, for sure,” Keyshawn continues Sean Zittel when asked about the fight he wants beyond Albright.
Keyshawn then turned up the pressure on Haney, saying he sees no reason for the former two-division champion to continue to sit out while other rumored fights remain unresolved.
“For sure. He’s got nothing. Not that I know of. He’s got nothing coming up. He’s been sitting for a while now,” Keyshawn said of Haney. “Tell Devin Haney, stop playing. Stop being so scared, bro. Fight me, bro. Like, I wanna fight you.”
Haney has recently been linked to several possible directions, including a rematch with Ryan Garcia and reported interest in joining the rumored Zuffa Boxing project. Keyshawn questioned whether these plans are actually close to becoming reality.
“If he got these fights, we would have heard about them. They would have promoted them,” Keyshawn said. “So why not fight a rising star that’s going to be a big fight?”
Keyshawn also argued that a fight between the two would make business sense due to his growing profile and fan base.
“Someone who’s also going to help you put donkeys in those seats so we can get paid at the gate and off the network as well,” he said. “Why not fight me?”
The 26-year-old Keyshawn has repeatedly asked for fights against Haney, Garcia and other top names at 140 and 147. He admitted elsewhere in the interview that he originally wanted a fight against Oscar Duarte instead of the Albright rematch, but said Top Rank pushed for the rematch because “they like the story.”
