After the event, all attention quickly turned to Marquez and his safety.

to speak DAZN Spain After the sprint, Marquez confirmed that he has surgery planned for after next weekend’s race.

He said, “Well, that was one of the reasons I was taking it easy this weekend. I was going to have an accident at any time, and that broke my fifth metacarpal.”

“After Catalunya, I had an operation on my right shoulder. Because this season I’m having more problems than usual. You see. I tried to convince myself otherwise. But after Jerez, I realized that something wasn’t working, I realized that something wasn’t right.

“We went to the doctors and, well, after the accident in Indonesia, they see that everything is fine, but the famous rotator cuff that was broken in my shoulder, in the scapula, is now in a different position. I had a very strange feeling, because I’m safe at home, I come here and things go wrong.

“So I thought my mind was locked, I was blocked, but in a screw in a different position, they saw it touching my radial nerve, and that’s what makes me err, makes me inconsistent, causes me to crash unexpectedly.

“That’s why I’ve been very calm all weekend, so, well, we’ll do it all at once. I need to recover properly and then I’ll try to continue the process of building my future.”

Michael Laverty says Marc Marquez is a ‘shadow’ of his former self.

Reacting to Marquez’s big crash, Laverty said the Spaniard was a shadow of his former self as Marquez was not physically fit to fight the bike.

Laverty said on TNT Sports: “Yes, Mark always surprises us, but I don’t know why he remembers his year at Repsol when he decided to call it a day to put things right.

“In terms of his recovery and the recovery of his arm, look, he’s limping, he’s feeling it, he’s not completely giving away how much he’s struggling.

“I’m physically the one who can’t force this bike right now, and you see things like that, maybe when it locks up it lacks a little bit of strength to fight it,” he said.

“He’s not on the front of the bike like he used to be. Fingers crossed, he can turn. We want to see how Mark delivers on that title last year. At the moment he’s a shadow of his former self.”
