The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi witnessed a masterclass in defensive bowling. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) took over Delhi Capitals (DC) In his 51st match IPL 2026 On May 08. KKR’s strategic decision to field first paid rich dividends in a high-octane encounter where the pitch offered subtle help to the slower bowlers. While the Capitals expected the boundaries to pile up, they were tactically suffocated by the KKR bowling unit in what turned out to be a career-defining spell. Anukul Roy.
Anukul Roy beat Tristan Stubbs with a sensational performance in DC vs KKR
The momentum of the match changed irrevocably in the 11th over, a game that will feature in the highlights of IPL 2026. After removing the dangerous game Pathum Nissanka just four balls earlier, Roy produced a moment of magic that left the Delhi crowd in stunned silence.
11th over looking the fifth ball (10.5), explosive Tristan Stubbs was trying to rebuild the innings. However, Roy had other plans. Driving around cover, Roy fired a 95km/h ball that set the line from stump to stump. Known for his quick hands, Stubbs remained rooted to the back foot and tried to clear his front foot to get the ball through the covers.
However, the delivery skidded off the surface with a low bounce. Stubbs played for a non-turner, the ball hit the air as it went past his outside edge to stay top of the stumps. It was a dismissal of the classic left-arm spinner who beat the dead on pace and trajectory. Stubbs departed the DC middle order at 89/5 for a paltry 2 off 4 balls.

KKR’s spin stranglehold restricts DC to post a big score
Despite a brilliant start from Nissanka, who hit 29-ball 50s (including 5 fours and 3 sixes), Delhi Capitals failed to capitalize on their home advantage. The KKR captain after the Powerplay ended at 55/1 Ajinkya Rahane unleashed the spin department, turning the game into a battle of attrition.
The “spin choke” was originally developed by the Roy trio. Sunil Narineand Varun Chakraborty. Narine was almost unplayable, conceding a ridiculous 17 runs in 4 overs at an economy rate of 4.25. Samir Rizvi. Roy completed his match-winning spell with figures of 3/31, effectively eliminating the core of the DC batting line-up.
Capitals’ innings ended at a disappointing 142/8 after 20 overs. With a run rate of just 7.10 on a Delhi surface that usually favors high scores, KKR went into the innings break with a huge chance of victory. It ensured a disciplined bowling effort, including DC power-hitters Akhar Patel and Mitchell Starcbreaking the shackles was never allowed.
