If there’s one wedge that sets the standard for modern looks and performance in today’s models, it’s Cleveland’s 588.
Now, with founder Roger Cleveland returning to the company last year, Cleveland is giving today’s generation of golfers the opportunity to experience the legendary wedge design with the release of the Limited Edition 588 Tour Action Wedge set.
“From the beginning, the 588 was built around feedback from the world’s best players,” Cleveland said in a release. “For this version, we stayed true to the original shaping and ground interaction that made it special, integrating modern materials and technologies within the club. It’s the same reliable look and performance, refined for today’s game.”
Released in May of 1988 (hence the name 588), Cleveland’s 588 wedge instantly became the standard for shape, terrain interaction and performance for the modern wedge. Pyka went on to hundreds of professional victories and dozens of major championships.
Earlier this year, the Cleveland/Srixon Tour team began seeding Cleveland RTZ prototypes for the pros With the distinctive 588 Wide sole design and offset profile, the first Cleveland wedges helped since his return to the company in early 2025.
“The 588 has always had a special meaning to me because of the way golfers embraced it,” Cleveland said. “Seeing the players build real confidence in that wedge, relying on it in the most important moments was unforgettable. And now a new generation will have a chance to experience that too.”
The new edition of the 588 retains the original’s shape and distinctive chrome finish, with Cleveland branding stamped on the sole. But modern touches include the use of Cleveland’s new Z-Alloy material, which debuted in the RTZ linealong with ZipCore, HydraZip, UltiZip and Rotex Face Milling channels to enhance the original design.
The wedges are part of the three-piece, boxed set, which includes a 52Ëš, 56Ëš and 60Ëš wedge. Each wedge is milled and finished to Cleveland’s specifications and is presented in a premium collector’s case, and includes a brushed brass plate. Only 588 kits will be available.
