Promoter Frank Warren argues that critics are misinterpreting Daniel Dubois’ recent media strikes, attributing the heavyweight champion’s behavior to an introverted personality rather than pre-fight nerves.
Speaking to Fabio Wardley ahead of Saturday’s Manchester clash, Warren highlighted Dubois’ preference for privacy, even after his career-best win over Anthony Joshua.
“Everybody that fights Daniel is trying to get under his skin,” Warren said secondst about Dubois. “Fabio does the same thing. It’s not Daniel’s style to do it. He’s more of an introvert. Fabio is very articulate, very well spoken, while Daniel is articulate, but he doesn’t really want to do it.
“I’m looking at 93,000 people at Wembley when he did an absolute job on AJ. Had him on the floor five or six times before he knocked him out. Then in the dressing room he wanted to go home. I had to drag him to us after the press conference, and he’s coming off that amazing win.”
Dubois’ perceived “discomfort” became a central theme of fight week. However, Warren’s account of the post-Wembley locker room suggests a consistent pattern of behavior that has historically preceded Dubois’ most dominant performances in the ring.
