Drew Stoltz, co-host of the popular Subpar GOLF podcastis back with a second season of Emergency 9, presented by Cobra. Readers of this space may recall that last year, Stoltz’s Emergency 9 series covered a variety of topics, from gear explainers to tips on how to get the most out of your friends in your next matchup.
For this season of Emergency 9, Stoltz is kicking things off with a review of Cobra’s The OPTM family of drivers.
There are four OPTM driver models to choose from: LS, X, Max-K and Max-D. As a fast player who wants to minimize spin, Stoltz adapted to the OPTM LS.

Last year, Stoltz was impressed Cobra’s FutureFit33 technologywhich was presented in DS-APAPT of Cobra products. The FutureFit33, which allows you to adjust the loft and alignment of your metal by plus or minus 2 degrees in any direction – enabling 33 total placement options – is also available in the OPTM line. But there is more! With the OPTM family, Cobra prioritized POI – Product of Inertia – modeling to re-engineer mass placement and weight positions on driver heads to reduce 3D twist on off-center hits, resulting in tighter distribution and better accuracy.
“I honestly liked the last line and I wasn’t sure I was going to put this in the bag just because I had no complaints about the last,” Stoltz said. “But I think I take everything I had from that last driver plus some with this one, a little more face stability.”
OPTM’s game-changing Hot Face technology enabled Stoltz to hit bomb after bomb.
“The forged face insert creates flex space when you hit it, which basically means you get the most out of your drive, the most speed you can get,” explained Stoltz. “Next, we have an advanced weighing system here. There are three different places where you can put weight.
“The one on the toe is where I put most of my weight,” he continued. “I like everything to go left to right to encourage a fade, so I put more weight on the toe. It also helps me get the shape I like.
“No matter what kind of golfer you are, what kind of shot you like to hit, there’s a fit here at FutureFit33 that will help your game.”
Stoltz worked with Cobra’s Ben Schomin to decide on his specs.
“We went through a bunch of different environments, a bunch of different lies, lofts, all the stuff, until we finally came up with this combination here,” Stoltz said. “The 10.5-degree head moved almost 1.5 to about 9, and then we flattened it out 1 degree as well. So I’ve got a left-to-right rocket launcher right here.
“I must issue a warning before you hit the OPTM driver,” he said. “This comes with highly dependent accuracy and dangerous levels of stability.”
