George Groves wants anger Joshua fight at Wembley

George Groves says Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua should finally meet at Wembley Stadium instead of overseas when their long-awaited heavyweight fight takes place later this year.

“I’d love to see it at Wembley,” Groves said Sky Sports. “It’s the home of British boxing on that scale. It’s the home of sport in Britain.”

Fury and Joshua are expected to fight before the end of 2026, although no date or venue has been officially confirmed.

Saudi Arabia has often been mentioned as a possible destination for the fight due to Turki Alalshikh’s involvement in heavyweight boxing, but Groves believes the opportunity belongs in Britain.

“I’d be disappointed if it was abroad,” Groves said.

“It’s great to box in Saudi Arabia, it’s great to box in Vegas or New York or Dublin or wherever they’re talking about. But two Brits, they’ll look back and say, ‘I’m so glad I boxed at Wembley Stadium.’

Groves fought Carl Froch in front of over 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium in 2014, one of the first major British stadium fights of the modern era.

Both Fury and Joshua have since headlined separate heavyweight title bouts at Wembley.

Joshua is expected to return against Kristian Prenga in July, while Fury has also discussed taking another fight before facing Joshua later this year.

“People have really invested in this fight,” Groves said. “They’ve waited so long, they’ll wait a little longer.”

“But we want to see them fight. We’re excited to see these two guys box.”
