Francis Ngannou doesn’t see a clear winner in a potential fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, but he has made one thing clear – the longer it goes, the more it favors Fury.
The former heavyweight champion, who shared the ring with both men, broke down the bout into two outcomes when asked for his prediction. Francis Ngannou said a decision leans towards Tyson Fury, while an early knockout gives Anthony Joshua his opening.
“I think if it’s going to be like a decision, I’ll pick Fury,” Ngannou said Sky Sports Boxing. “If it’s like a knockout, I think Joshua has a chance early in the round, but as far as the fight goes, it’s going to be much more in Fury’s favor.”
This is a measured read from someone who has already tested both styles. Ngannou went the distance with Fury in a close fight that surprised much of the boxing world, and then faced Joshua in a separate fight that ended inside the distance. That experience lends weight to his split view of the game rather than a straightforward choice.
Ngannou also showed how long the fight over the division has.
“We’ve been waiting for that fight for almost 10 years,” he said.
The takeaway is simple and grounded. Joshua’s path looks narrow and tied to early success, while Fury’s advantage grows the deeper the fight goes. This is a common view among heavyweight fighters, but coming from someone who has felt both fighters up close, it carries a little more conviction.
