Joshua is still set for a comeback in July after some time away following a fatal car accident in Nigeria that claimed two of his close friends. He confirmed he will continue his career and target Fury next, provided he gets through a summer fight.
That first step has now been taken. Joshua faces Kristian Prenga in Riyadh on July 25, with both sides saying a deal for Fury is in place afterwards. Eddie Hearn pointed to November as the target.
“We’ll come back in July, against Kristian Prenga, and then, if all goes well, we’ll fight Tyson Fury in November. It’s all signed from our side, done. Fury said he’s signed too, so touch wood, we’re finally going to get what is undoubtedly the biggest fight in the history of British boxing,” Hearn told the Punch Podcast.
On Fury’s side, Frank Warren gave another window for when the fight will take place.
“It’s signed. Tyson signed up for it months ago, and we were waiting for AJ, and he’s done it now. So, the fight will go ahead, and it will be sometime in October, so to speak,” Warren told talkSport Boxing.
That difference between October and November is small on paper, but that usually means the details aren’t quite settled yet. Dates, venue and Fury’s own schedule have yet to be finalized before anything is really locked in.
The fight exists with a condition attached. Joshua has to get through July first. Until that happens, everything is still being talked about.
