As the golf season begins again for many golfers, it’s a good time to check the simple things.
The grip. Configuration. Alignment. Ball position.
And, perhaps most importantly, the place of impact.
I recently bought a pack of impact tape to see if it would give me a better look at where I was contacting the ball on the club face. I had a feeling my hitting was a little dull after a few months of not playing as consistently.
After a few swings with the batting bar, it was clear that I was catching the ball farther into my toe than I wanted to.
What an impact the tape showed me
I could feel that some shots were poor, but I probably wouldn’t have caught the pattern as quickly without the tape.
For me, the issue was a combination of setting up and working around an injury I’d been dealing with for a few months. Once I saw finger contact clearly, I had something specific to work on.

Why the location of the shot matters

For me, seeing the toe pattern right there on the tape helped me make a simple adjustment instead of spending an entire session guessing. I also don’t like making big changes on the fly if I can change something simple first like the configuration or the position of the ball and hit the center again.
How long is the golf swing band?

There is also something motivating about trying to darken the center of the face. It gives the practice a very clear purpose.
What I liked about the impact bar I bought

I have used foot sprays in the past, including products like Dr. Scholl’s, and it can work. However, I have found that sometimes it can be more difficult to clean than I would like. The bar is cleaner, lighter and more suitable for a fast range session.
Who Should Try The Impact Bar?
Impact bar it makes sense for players who want an easy way to control contact. It can be particularly useful if:
- Your shots feel weak, but you’re not sure why
- You are losing distance or altitude
- You are returning to golf after a layoff or injury

- You want to check if your contact is improving

I especially like it for small players. It turns the shot location into a game. Try to hit the center. See if you can make the other one better. Anytime golf feels more fun and less technical, that’s a win.
Is Impact Bar Worth Buying?
My vote is yes, especially early in the season. The package I bought was about $15 and has 30 pieces of tape for irons, hybrids and drivers, so 90 total.
It won’t magically fix your movement, but a little awareness and feedback can make a session more effective.
