AS Roma cruised to a commanding 2-0 win in Bologna, with Donyell Malen’s opener and Noel El Aynaoui’s stoppage-time goal sealing three crucial points in the title race.
Bologna came into this clash in eighth place with 48 points from 33 games, looking to climb further into Serie A. Roma came in sixth with 58 points, looking to keep the pressure on the teams above them. The visitors came into the game in mixed form, while Bologna had won just one of their last five games.
Roma made an explosive start at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium. After seven minutes, Malen struck with clinical precision, firing past the Bologna keeper to give the visitors an early lead. The goal set the tone for a game in which Roma would dominate possession and chances.
Bologna responded with intent, pushing forward to find the equaliser. The home team created some chances but did not have the cutting edge to trouble the Roma defence. Their control of possession meant little without clear chances in front of goal.
As the first half progressed, Roma controlled the tempo effectively. They soaked up Bologna’s pressure and looked dangerous on the break. The visitors’ defensive organization frustrated their hosts for the first 45 minutes.
Just before the break, Roma doubled their lead in devastating fashion. Aynaoui scored in the 45th minute, adding a second goal that effectively settled the match. Bologna’s hopes of a comeback were dealt a serious blow heading into the break.
The second half saw Bologna continue to look for a way back into the game. However, Rome’s defense held firm. Mancini and his defensive colleagues repelled wave after wave of Bologna attacks with solid positioning and commitment.
Roma made tactical adjustments to manage the match. Rensch received a yellow card in the 66th minute for a foul, while El Aynaoui was also booked. These moments showed the intensity of the game despite Roma’s two-goal lead.
Bologna created 10 shots in total, but managed only two on target. Roma goalkeeper Svilar made two important saves to preserve a clean sheet. The visitors’ expected goals of 2.14 reflected their clinical finishing compared to Bologna’s 0.55 xG.
The possession stats told an interesting story. Bologna dominated with 60 percent of the ball, but could not convert this control into goals. Roma’s 40 percent possession proved far more efficient, with both shots finding the net.
Malen earned a 9.0 rating for his influential performance, combining his goal with an assist. Aynaoui finished with a 7.2 rating despite playing the full 90 minutes and contributing both a goal and an assist. The two attackers were decisive in Rome’s victory.
This result strengthens Roma’s position in sixth place with 58 points in 34 games. Bologna remain eighth on 48 points, their hopes of a late surge now facing further obstacles. The gap between these sides widened significantly overnight.
