With Brad Binder staring down the barrel of his exit from MotoGP at the end of the 2026 campaign, former rider Neil Hodgson says he needs to improve the South African’s form to have any chance of keeping his seat.
The MotoGP rider market for the 2027 season is already in good shape, and seats are filling up fast. Alex Rins has already been stung by Yamaha. Because of their rush and Brad Binder the same thing could fall.
The only thing Binder can do at this point is to improve his results and show that he can rank among the world’s best riders on two wheels.

The MotoGP grid is now in Jerez for this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix, giving the 30-year-old a chance to do exactly that.

During TNT Sports’ coverage of FP1 at the Spanish Grand Prix, commentators Gavin Emmett and Neil Hodgson discussed the issues that threatened Binder’s place on the MotoGP grid.
Emmett began by highlighting how Binder’s name didn’t come up much in the rumor mill. Seats are already filling up fast, it has been reported KTM has already decided on the rider line-up Campaign for 2027.
Then on Friday afternoon in pre-qualifying practice, Binder improved his position and overall form in one lap.

Hodgson agreed and added his thoughts on what the South African needs to do to secure his place in MotoGP’s new regulations. He said, “Yeah, that’s basically going to be a little known in MotoGP.
But obviously we’ve all seen Pedro Acosta; He’s amazing in his ability. And he’s so good in his ability that it gives him a chance in the race.
“He’s weak in performance, and think how fast he’s been in the last 4 races, always going forward, super aggressive. But you’re right, the weekend is kind of a shot on Friday, he’s not going straight to Q2 and he’s missed out on a lot of occasions.
“He’s one of the unconfirmed riders for next year’s ride, so the pressure is on now. He’s got to make sure he’s in the top 10 for sure. If not, he might be sitting out.”
Brad Binder does not have a plan B in MotoGP if KTM chooses to replace him
It’s safe to say the future isn’t too bright for Binder in MotoGP, and his departure from the factory KTM team could spell the end of his reign in the premier class.
It is reported that Binder does not have a backup plan Matthijhofen pulled the trigger on signing Alex Marquez and promoting Maverick Vinales from Tech 3.
The only saving grace for the South Africans at the moment comes from Vinales’ poor start to 2026. KTM has now ‘suspended’ its deal with Tech3 Rider.This may allow Binder to go back if he succeeds in changing the problems.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Binder. As one of the most popular riders among avid spectators, his exit is a huge blow for fans.
