O’Shaquie Foster Says Shakur Fights Still The Targe

O’Shaquie Foster says a fight with Shakur Stevenson remains on his mind even after agreeing to defend his WBC super featherweight title against Raymond Ford on May 30 at the Fertitta Center in Houston on DAZN.

Foster (24-3, 12 KOs) has spent the past months calling for a showdown with Stevenson. During an interview this week, he said the undefeated star made it clear that another step had to come first.

“He said he wanted me to fight his son. He said, ‘Give my son an opportunity and then I’ll fight you,'” Foster told Fight Hub TV when asked how the Ford fight came together.

The matchup adds extra heat because Foster and Ford have exchanged words in the past, while Stevenson has been linked on both ends. Foster made it clear he still sees Stevenson as unfinished business once the Ford fight is dealt with.

“I’ll meet him wherever he wants to meet,” Foster said. “If after this fight, when I crush his man’s, he says he’s not coming back to 35, I’ll skip 35, go to 40 just for him.”

That comment suggests Foster would be willing to move divisions to secure a Stevenson fight, either at lightweight or another agreed-upon weight.

First, Foster must deal with Ford in a dangerous title defense against a younger and more skilled opponent. This is not the kind of battle a champion takes on if he’s just looking for a safe bridge to something bigger.

Still, Foster used the interview to keep Stevenson in the picture and let fans know the target hasn’t changed.

If Foster wins on May 30, the pressure for talks with Stevenson will only increase. He sounds serious about it, and that usually means something.
