What golfers buy and what performs best don’t always match. We asked PGA TOUR Superstore for their best-selling hammer gauges and compared that list to our 2025 and 2026 test data to see where they line up—and where they don’t.
A quick thing to note: PGA TOUR Superstore it doesn’t separate zero-torque devices as their own category, but we did during testing. This means some models, especially from Golf LABappear in another test group if you see our results.
Golfers are buying and it performed well
Some brands show clear overlap between retail demand and test results.
TaylorMade Spider Series
of Formation of spiders appears throughout the PGA TOUR Superstore bestseller list and has real testing backing. If you noticed, it’s also inside many bags of the best players on the PGA Tour. Models like the Spider Tour X performed well in our hammer testing, while zero-torque versions like the Spider 5K ZT also finished atop that category.
Not every Spider performs the same, but lineup depth is part of the story. There are enough solid options here that it’s no wonder golfers keep buying them.
PING Scottsdale Series
PING’s Scottsdale models are another strong match. Multiple versions emerged as top performers in the our 2025 testincluding Prime Tyne 4. Even in newer records, Scottsdale models continue to hold their own.
Golf LAB
Once you separate out the zero-torque setters, LAB becomes one of the strongest alignment stories in the entire data set. of OZ.1i was one of the best performers in the test and DF3one of the most popular retail models, also posted solid results.
Putters that deserve more attention based on test results
Some brands performed well in testing, but the specific models golfers buy aren’t always the ones that stand out at the top of the PGA TOUR Superstore best-selling list.
Cleveland Golf HB Soft 2 Series
Cleveland had multiple strong finishes in testing, including the HB Soft 2 models. These putters performed well at distances, especially on longer shots.
They are available at the PGA TOUR Superstore, but don’t generate the same level of attention as some of the bigger names. Based on the data, they are worth a closer look and their price is usually fair.
Odyssey Ai-One lineup
The Odyssey is well represented at retail, but the model golfers are buying the most isn’t necessarily the one that stood out in testing. The bestseller list leans towards models like the Ai Dual Tri Hot, while our testing highlighted the options HOW Have-A number 7 and Ai-One Milled Seven T as strongest overall performers.
This does not make the popular option a poor choice. It just means there may be better performing alternatives next to it. Make sure you’re testing models that fit your stroke.
Golfers are buying regardless of scores
This is not to say that these meters are bad. It just means that the test data doesn’t show them as the highest performing meters we’ve seen in years.
of Scotty Cameron Phantom the line-up continues to sell at a high level, which is not surprising given the brand’s reputation. In our 2026 testing, models like Ghost 9 AND Ghost 5 produced solid results, especially on longer shots, but they didn’t separate themselves from the best performers on the field.
This seems more like a case of strong brand trust carrying over into purchasing decisions. Golfers know the name, trust the feel, and keep coming back to it—even when data suggests there are several higher-performing options available.
