Parma secured a crucial 1-0 win away to Udinese at the Blueenergy Stadium thanks to a decisive second-half goal from Nesta Elphege.
Coming into this Serie A match, Udinese were 11th in the league table, looking to improve on their mixed form. Parma came from 14th place, aiming to end a difficult run of results and secure vital points.
The first half began with both teams testing each other’s defensive structure. Udinese controlled possession for large stretches, trying to break down Parma’s disciplined back line.
Although the home side pushed forward, the visiting defense remained organized and compact. Zion Suzuki proved reliable in goal, neutralizing early threats with calm positioning and clean handling.
The teams entered the break with the score tied at 0-0. Both coaches were faced with tactical decisions, needing more of an edge in the final third to break the tie.
The breakthrough came shortly after the break in the 51st minute as Nesta Elphege took advantage of a rare opening, firing home to give the visitors a slim 1-0 lead.
The goal forced Udinese to change their approach, bringing more men forward to find the equaliser. They held 57 percent possession all afternoon, constantly looking for a gap.
Gabriel Strefezza became Parma’s creative heartbeat, assisting the goal and creating three key chances before his substitution. His influence proved vital in keeping the Udinese defense honest.
As the game drew to a close, Udinese upped the ante, desperate to salvage a point. However, Parma’s defence, led by disciplined work, blocked four shots and denied the home side any clear looks at goal.
Tensions mounted in the latter stages as the hosts became frustrated. The intervention of the referee was necessary, with yellow cards to N. Zaniolo and J. Karlstrom to manage the intensity of the match.
Statistically, the match reflected a close contest where efficiency mattered most. Although Udinese registered 16 shots, their expected goals figure of 1.13 fell short of Parma’s clinical effort.
Suzuki finished with three crucial saves, ensuring their clean sheet remained intact despite the late pressure. His performance was the basis of this victory away from home.
This result keeps Udinese in 11th place, while Parma move a little closer to mid-table. Both teams will now look to regroup and prepare for the upcoming league challenges.
