Dalton Joyce (@youngdalt) is a golf content creator known for showcasing his dedication to health, performance and enjoyment of the game one swing at a time. He also produces ball speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour. Known for his “No one cares, work harder” mentality, it’s fascinating to watch Dalton’s work and follow his success on his Instagram page. I caught up with Joyce at a Callaway Ambassador shoot last month to see what’s in the high speed player’s bag and why he chooses to play Callaway the clubs he does.
A high end of choices built for speed
Consistency is king
Moving as fast as Joyce, there are some unique problems to solve at the top of the bag. For him, especially with the driver, it’s about stability in the rotation. This has been a big talking point with Callaway over the past few years as they continue to improve on their Ai-Smart face. That technology was developed to implement Ai to build a face that supports off-center hits. Usually this is done by adding speed where needed, but Callaway has started to improve spin consistency as well. With the presentation of Tri-Force facing off this year with Callaway’s Quantum drivers, the brand has added even more speed and stability. For Dalton, that’s everything.

When asked about his transition to Triple Quantum Diamond 9º Joyce said, “I switched to the Quantum driver pretty quickly this year…it takes a while (usually) but this time there was no hesitation. I like the way the crown looks, reminiscent of Ai Smoke, but beyond that the spin distribution is much better for me. I need something with a bit better spin distribution.”

Mini in name only
The other club in his bag is his Callaway Elyte Mini, which – spoiler alert – will be replaced by the upcoming Quantum Mini (more on that soon). Mini for Joyce is a “tool” in the bag, often replacing his driver on courses where his driver just doesn’t make much sense on the course. Joyce talks a lot about course strategy, along with gear strategy, and how it helps his game. He tied the current course record at TPC Houston, so I’ll let him guide me to success on this one. However, the Mini plays a big role in his bag. It’s a driver replacement when needed, but also works as a great secondary tee option for courses that require shot shaping. He finds it easier to manipulate the Mini’s flight than the driver.

No 3-wood
It sits next to the minute Callaway Apex UW at 17º loft. In Joyce’s bag it works as a 3-wood substitute. Because of the UW shape and the step sole they have added to the newest generation of the club, it is a very easy club to hit off the deck. For Joyce, this means that almost every 5 point becomes achievable in two with very little stress. If he has the driver in the bag and feels confident off the tee for the day, UW will be in the bag over the Mini just to make sure all the shots he needs are in the bag. He says he doesn’t hit it off the tee that much, but the off-court performance was hard to ignore.

The club that influenced and influential
Yes, we are still on top of the bag. As such an important part of Joyce’s success, he has really locked down this area of the problem-solving bag. Those most reliable problem-solvers in the sack? His last generation Callaway Apex UT. He likes the design of this version much better than the last one.
“This is probably my favorite club in the bag. I just think this one is so much better than their last UT model. The offset looks really good, I didn’t think the other one had enough offset for how the face was…this one just looks a little more like an iron than the last one.”

This is something we agree on. What we don’t share is the ability to hit this thing the way he does. A UT in his hands, in this case a 3-iron variation, could be his 265-yard shot on a “short” 5. He’ll make it hit a cut. I don’t have it in my bag, but it sure is fun to watch Dalton do it. In fact there was a point where Joyce only had one cover in the bag: his driver.
“I used to go driver, this is the first mini I ever had, I went driver, 16º iron, 20º iron, and then 4 iron on the rest… but it’s a little easier for me now.

Forged X sole bars
Joyce chooses Callaway X-Forged (2025) on 4-PW to handle the middle of the bag.
“Big fan of these,” he said. “I think while they’re a little longer from heel to toe, that gives me confidence. I felt the TCBs I played in for a while were really good, but for the thickness I didn’t understand why they were so thick from heel to toe.”
Joyce pointed out that he doesn’t like irons with shorter blade lengths. “I like the classic look, when I look at this I think Phil Mickelson is prime.”
For Joyce, the X-Forged sole is a dream. Having a three heel design allows it to stay aggressive with every iron in the set while ensuring the club leaves the fairway efficiently; a very important factor in choosing high speed irons.

Completion of the bag
At the bottom of the bag, Joyce rounds out his set with Callaway Opus SP wedges and an Odyssey Ai-One Milled 7T in silver, though the basket was replaced by a find from the used bin at the PGA Tour Superstore during our filming trip. He now has a special Odyssey 2 Ball Ten Triple Track PGA Tour 2K rig in the bag, because why not?

Joyce also mentioned that he was experimenting with Callaway’s new Opus SP+ wedges and saw some great results. He also mentioned that he can hold his lob wedge about 120 yards. He’s comfortable swinging his shorter club “…about 115 (yards) into the wind,” joking, “I swing it a lot, dude.”

“I tried PS+, I think I was the first one to hit them. Within two balls … the trajectory from 40 yards must have dropped 10 yards … unbelievable … Makes me feel a lot better than I should, but I’ll take it.”
After asking about the strife in his lobby, he responded with a cute little tidbit. “With the SP+, the Z-grind is what I felt the most comfortable with. This (Opus SP) is a C-grind, for the SP+ definitely a Z-grind type. Once I got the Z-grind going, that’s when I really started to see the (launch) benefits of the SP+.”
Lots of golf balls in play
Depending on the course, Joyce will switch golf balls.
“If it’s a big, open golf course, I’ll just send the Triple Diamond if I know I’m going to hit a lot of drivers. But for tour purposes, I’m a (Chrome) Tour guy. I’ve done a lot of ball testing with Callaway R&D and I’m just a Tour guy over X. I just roll very short, especially with an X miron.”
