Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua Target Croke Park Fight September

The 80,000-seat stadium is lined up for the event, but timing depends on Fury beating Arslanbek Makhmudov this weekend and Joshua opting not to take a summer fight.

If Joshua opts for a return fight before facing Fury, the fight moves to the end of the year, possibly in the UK.

Croke Park chief executive Peter McKenna outlined how the event could also bring Katie Taylor to the venue. “The real hope is that we will get Tyson Fury here later in the year. It will be such a world-billing event that we will be able to facilitate a Katie Taylor fight here,” he said BBC Sport.

“A lot of stars need to align. Katie’s manager needs to align, Katie’s promoter needs to align, Tyson Fury’s promoter needs to align.

“I’m very confident that all three will come to terms with the fact that this is one of Ireland’s greatest sports athletes and it will be such a ‘wow’ to have her here and for her to finish her career here.”

Ireland star Katie Taylor has long targeted a fight at Croke Park and has previously stated her ambition to end her career in Dublin, although her team have yet to comment on the latest discussions.

Fury also addressed the situation directly. “I want to fight Joshua next,” he told BBC Sport, although he confirmed that no deal is currently in place.

If both stay on track, Croke Park becomes the frontrunner for one of the biggest heavyweight fights of the year.
