IPL 2026: Yashasvi Jaiswal, bowler spells Rajasthan Royals’ commanding win over Mumbai Indians



A rain-soaked evening in Guwahati turned into an exciting but one-sided contest Rajasthan Royals (RR) showed command against Mumbai Indians (MI). With the match shortened to just 11 overs per side at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, the game demanded urgency from the first ball – and RR responded in style. Backed by a sensational knock from Yashasvi Jaiswal and a clinical bowling effort, RR continued their strong run to comfortably secure a 27-run win. IPL 2026.

Asked to bat first in a reduced contest, RR wasted no time in asserting their dominance. The opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi came out with fearless intent, surprising the MI bowlers. Immediately after the opening, Jaiswal made his intentions known by attacking aggressively and set the tone for what followed.

The pair put together an amazing partnership of 80 in just five overs, swinging the momentum completely in Rajasthan’s favour. Jaiswal looked with great touch, timing the ball beautifully and finding the gaps with ease. His unbeaten 77 off 32 balls was a masterclass in controlled aggression, studded with 10 fours and 4 powerful sixes.

Sooryavanshi, despite her young age, displayed remarkable composure and confidence. His knock of 39 off just 14 balls added a lot of pressure to MI’s bowling attack. One highlight was his confident take on Jasprit Bumrah and smashed him for two sixes in the first over – a move that highlighted his fearless approach.

While MI managed to score a couple of runs in the middle overs, Jaiswal ensured there was no slowdown. He kept the innings together and took RR to a mammoth 150/3 in just 11 overs, which was always going to look difficult in the shortened game.

The Royals tower over, the Mumbai Indians batting looking for a response

Chasing down a steep target in a rain-reduced game is never easy and MI felt the pressure early. The RR bowlers came out with a clear plan and executed it to perfection, hitting quick shots to disrupt Mumbai’s chase almost immediately.

The top order crumbled under pressure as key players failed to step up. MI struggled at 22/3 in the first three overs, losing important wickets cheaply, including those of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Ryan Rickelton. This early damage proved to be too much to recover from.

RR’s bowling attack maintained tight lines and did not allow them to breathe. Ravi Bishnoi played a crucial role in dismantling the middle order, picking up crucial wickets at the right time. Sandeep Sharma rounded it off well, using his experience to keep things tight and deliver key breakthroughs.

Although briefly resisted by Sherfane Rutherford and Naman Dhir, the run rate required was already out of control. RR’s bowlers remained disciplined till the end, Restricts MI to 123/9 and won a convincing victory.

Jaiswal was adjudged Player of the Match for his heroics.
