‘Alvaro Bautista has always had good bikes,’ says Marc Marquez.

“So that helps, but we shouldn’t take away from the goodness and talent he has. He’s been through tough times and he’s recovered.”
“It was a little like Mick Doohan, my idol, he did the same thing, right? Hard times to say, “Well, I’ve already won a lot, I’m going to stay at home because it hurts me.”
“And finally, he became stubborn to the point where he said, ‘No, I have to prove to myself and everyone else that I can win again.’
He was so sure of himself that he made choices that no other rider would make. Confidence is important. For everything he did, how he did it, and for me he is one of the best riders in history.

Marquez 2026 enters as a strong favourite. For title number eight, however, that status is under threat after a rough start. After three rounds he was fifth, 36 points adrift of the impressive Marco Bezecchi Aprilia.
After shoulder surgery last fall, Marquez is still not 100% fit. A crash at the Indonesian GP ended his season in four rounds.
Bautista was asked about the title fight after the first round in Thailand (where Bezecchi won and Marquez retired with a tire failure), but the comments were still practical.
“I think at first glance it looks more fun than last year, which seems to be a one-sided affair,” he said.
What is clear is that Aprilia has improved a lot in at least the three pre-season tests and the first race, right? And Ducati, all the riders seem to be getting a little heavier now.
