Inter produced a dominant performance at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, defeating AS Roma 5-2 in a thrilling Serie A clash. Lautaro Martínez scored twice, leading a rampant Nerazzurri attack.

Inter went into the game as league leaders, sitting comfortably at the top with 69 points. Roma, in sixth place, tried to close the gap between the European classification places. Both teams aimed to consolidate their goals for the season.

Inter burst out of the blocks, scoring in the first minute. Marcus Thuram provided a strong assist, allowing Lautaro Martinez to slot home with ease. This first attack set a frenetic pace for the game.

AS Roma found their footing as the half progressed, pressing for an equaliser. Gianluca Mancini equalized for the visitors in the 40th minute. He slotted in from a well-placed pass from Devyne Rensch.

However, Inter regained the lead shortly before the break. Hakan Calhanoglu curled an accurate effort into the net in the second minute of added time. Piotr Zielinski scored the crucial goal.

At half-time, Inter led 2-1, but Roma were showing signs of life. The second half promised more goals as Roma pushed for a second equaliser, leaving spaces for Inter’s quick attacks.

Inter started the second half with renewed vigor, extending their lead early on. Lautaro Martínez completed his double in the 52nd minute, again assisted by Thuram. Moments later, Thuram himself got on the scoreboard and fired home in the 55th minute after a pass from Calhanoglu.

Roma struggled to contain Inter’s attacking waves, making a substitution early in the second half. Nicolo Pisilli was shown a yellow card by Roma in the 60th minute, reflecting their growing frustration. Three minutes later, Nicolo Barella scored Inter’s fifth goal with a powerful finish.

Despite being far behind, Roma grabbed a late consolation. Captain Lorenzo Pellegrini scored in the 70th minute with a determined effort. This made the score 5-2, a slight improvement for the visitors.

The statistics reflect Inter’s dominance throughout the match. They registered a total of 17 shots, with 9 on target, compared to Roma’s 9 shots and 3 on target. Inter also had more possession with 56%. Their expected goals (xG) stood at 1.17, while Roma’s were 0.96.

This emphatic 5-2 victory further cemented Inter’s position at the top of Serie A. It sent a clear message to their title rivals. Roma will have to regroup after this heavy defeat.
