Sebastian Fundora believes it is his time

Thurman believes that his experience at the championship level will give him the edge in the match, saying that Fundora has never faced a legend like him. The fact that he has fought the likes of Shawn Porter, Danny Garcia, Mario Barrios and Manny Pacquiao at welterweight does give him credit, but none of those opponents are physically built like Fundora.

Standing at 6 feet 5 ½ inches tall with an 80-inch reach, he is a tough opponent for anyone. When asked what he thought of Thurman’s statement that he had never faced a legend like him, Fundora said, “I’m already a legend myself. We’re trying to make it even more for the people, but I already consider myself a legend. There’s nobody like me in the super welterweight division. Never. I’m putting my stamp on my legacy.”

Fundora has flown under the radar due to his limited resume, but is poised to break out on the big stage against bigger-name opponents if he is successful against Thurman. The super welterweight division is one of the most talented divisions in boxing, with Vergil Ortiz, Jaron Ennis, Xander Zayas and Fundora himself.

Any of the boxers listed could be future opponents, making for superfights that will generate huge fan interest, but Fundora must take on the task first. He has to beat Thurman, and he has to do it convincingly to be considered among the best of the best in the division.

“He’s a great fighter. I think he’s a future Hall of Famer for sure, but now is my time,” Sebastian said of Thurman’s skills. He knows he poses a challenge and should not be taken lightly. In his last fight, Thurman was able to stop Brock Jarvis in the third round.

It seems that Keith wants to use a similar strategy against Fundora, believing that he can catch him on the inside and land the perfect punch. Although he was successful against Jarvis, it will be much more difficult and challenging to do against Sebastian, who is almost a foot taller with an 11-inch reach advantage.

Once an inside push fighter, Fundora has since learned to use distance effectively. He is prepared for whatever strategy Thurman may use. “We’ll see, we’ll see, because if you look at the last five fights, Jarvis was the only one he knocked out. So I think we’re on a completely different level than that.

We’ll see what he comes up with, but we’re also going for the knockout.” At yesterday’s weigh-in, Fundora (153.6 lb.) weighed a full pound heavier than Thurman (152.6 lb.) and will only get heavier as he hydrates.

Being the lighter fighter, Keith may choose to box on the outside, especially if he is bothered by Fundora’s power. Sebastian believes it’s his time, and he aims to put on a show, predicting he’ll end it by the sixth round.
