Rodrigue Kwizera broke Prague’s half-court record

The Burundian athlete beat Sebastian Sau’s 58:24 from the 2024 edition.

Rodrigue Quizera set the marker over 13.1 miles with a powerfully impressive victory in the men’s elite race of the 2026 Generali Prague Half Marathon.

The 26-year-old won in a record 58:16, bettering Sebastian Save’s record of 58:24 two years ago.

Kwizera beat Kenya’s Samwel Chebolei Masa by 32 seconds and Owen Korir Kapkama third with 58:58.

That means Kwizera, who retained his title with the fifth-fastest time over 13.1 miles this season, is now 14th on the all-time half marathon list.

The men’s podium was all incredibly fast, with the top three athletes finishing under 59 minutes. The leading Czech athlete was Jan Frisch, who ran 64:55.

Caroline Makandi Gitonga (Czech Republic)

Kenya’s Caroline Makandi Gitonga beat a strong women’s field in the Czech capital to win by 39 seconds.

The 29-year-old, who arrived in Prague in 29:34 over 10km in Castellon, won in a personal best of 66:16.

Her compatriots Jeska Chelangat (66:45) and Cynthia Chelangat Chepkwoni (66:49) finished second and third respectively.

Gitonga’s mark is the ninth fastest time over 13.1 miles this season.

The Prague International Marathon was founded in 1995 by Carlo Capalbo, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, with the aim of creating a world-class international event in the city.

The SuperHalfs series consists of six races: Prague, Berlin, Lisbon, Copenhagen, Cardiff and Valencia. Runners who complete all six receive a unique medal and SuperRunner title.
