Sifan Hassan (NED) has withdrawn from the 2026 TCS London Marathon on Sunday 26 April.
The reigning Olympic marathon champion and winner of the 2023 TCS London Marathon has been hampered by an Achilles injury that has affected his training.
Hasan suffered the injury six weeks ago after an unfortunate incident while training on the track. The injury was initially believed to be minor and she continued to train, but as her preparations for the TCS London Marathon intensified, the Dutchwoman was unable to progress as planned.

After a thorough evaluation, Hasan has now decided to pull out of the 2026 TCS London Marathon to avoid aggravating the injury. After a demanding period of training and competition last year, when he ran three Abbott World Marathon Majors in London, Sydney and New York, he chose to prioritize his recovery and long-term health.
Hasan said: “This was a very difficult decision to make. I love competing in the TCS London Marathon, it’s where I won my first marathon and I have very special memories there. But it’s also the highest quality marathon on the planet, and you need to be in top shape to compete at that level. After the incident, I hoped that the injury could be healed, but I expected that the injury could be healed, but as expected, it could be healed. I myself need to listen to my body and focus on recovering properly, I look forward to getting back into racing again in the future.

There were also notable withdrawals in the TCS London Marathon wheelchair fields. Susanna Scaroni, who won five of the Abbott World Marathon Majors last year and was second in London, will not be competing in this year’s event. His US team-mate Daniel Romanchuk, the 2019 London Marathon champion, will also be absent, while Britain’s Nathan Maguire has also had to withdraw through injury.
