The smart wristband that helped Josh Kerr win world gold

The British middle distance runner used the Amazfit Helio Strap during the 3000m race in Torun.

When Josh Kerr won the 3000m at the World Indoor Championships in Torun, he cut a distinctive figure with an Oakley tan on his face and Brooks spikes on his feet.

Eagle-eyed fans will also notice a black band on his upper right arm.

This is from Helio Strap Amazfit: which can be worn day and night to provide health insights such as continuous real-time heart rate measurements plus sleep statistics.

It works together with one Amazfit smart watches – and Kerr wore the Balance 2 ahead of the World Indoors, although Amazfit has since pulled the plug Active 3: with further models such as Active Max or thicker T-Rex 3 Pro available.

The Helio Strap is often worn on the wrist, but Kerr preferred it around his arm in Torun, using the Helio Armband extension. All measurements from these smart devices are also synced with the Zepp app.

Kerr signed with Amazfit earlier this year, joining the athletes Amazfit: steady like US 5000m and 10000m record holder Grant Fisher.

“Outside of training, nutrition, hydration and sleep are my three main pillars,” Kerr says, “and that’s where I’ve made huge gains over the last four years.”

Kerr is among a modern breed of athletes who prefer to train with feedback instead of guesswork, training with intention and being guided by data.
