The goal in every bunker shot is to hit the green on your first drive. The reason many rec players can’t do this is because they are too focused on the ball. The goal here: Focus on the sand. Try this.
Enter a practice bunker with your favorite wedge. Using the heel of the club, draw two lines in the sand: one about six inches from where you normally play the ball in your stance and another six inches behind.

I call these lines “snakes”. We all hate snakes, so the trick here is to get rid of them. Without a ball, putt and swing with the goal of carving your wedge through both snakes, that is, getting a patch of sand between the two as you move into your finish.

When you manage to clear both lines, you’ve nailed your bunker swing.
