Valencia stunned Sevilla at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán to claim a decisive 2-0 win at home. Hugo Duro and Largie Ramazani gave the decisive blows with two clinical goals in the first half.
This League fixture saw both teams eager for points to improve their standing in mid-table. Sevilla, 15th with 31 points, were hoping to reverse their recent form of one win in five. Valencia, just above them in 14th place with 32 points, have arrived with two more sure wins from their last five outings.
The first half saw the first tactical adjustments. Valencia made a quick change in the 26th minute, when José Gayà left the pitch for Jesús Vázquez. Sevilla’s Lamine Agoume received the first yellow card of the game just two minutes later.
Sevilla introduced fresh legs in the 37th minute, with César Azpilicueta making way for A. Adams. Moments later, Valencia broke the scoreboard. Hugo Duro found the goal in the 38th minute, putting the visitors ahead.
As the half ended, Valencia took advantage of their advantage. Largie Ramazani doubled the lead in stoppage time of the first half. His goal in the 45+5th minute, assisted by Luis Rioja, sent the visitors into the break with a strong lead.
With two goals down, Sevilla faced a major challenge. The local team needed a strong response to turn the tide. Valencia, on the other hand, wanted to consolidate their lead and control the second period.
The Sevilla coach made immediate changes after the break and brought on three substitutes. Batista Mendy, Antonio Sánchez and Juanlu Sánchez entered the fray at the start of the second half. Valencia also made substitutions around the 67th minute, replacing goalscorers Ramazani and Duro.
The game continued with a midfield battle. The Valencian L. Beltran received a yellow card for a foul in the 74th minute. Sevilla pushed forward, but the Valencian defense remained firm, limiting their clear chances.
More substitutions followed as both teams tried to influence the closing stages of the game. Valencia presented André Almeida and Javier Guerra. Despite sustained pressure from Sevilla, they struggled to penetrate the visitors’ determined back line. A yellow card by Sevilla’s N. Maupay in the 90+5th minute reflected his growing frustration.
Valencia showed clinical efficiency, scoring two goals with just four shots on target. His expected goals (xG) stood at 1.81, showing his offensive quality. Sevilla had 59% possession and had 13 shots in total. However, they managed just two shots on goal and a low xG of 0.36.
