Bradley was not neutral in his evaluation of Davis. He praised him as the more dangerous fighter and even suggested that he would be a more difficult task than Stevenson in certain situations. “I would rather fight Shakur than fight Keyshawn Davis,” Bradley told Boxingnewsonline. “Shakur is one of those guys that will humiliate you. Keyshawn will humiliate you and knock you out. That’s the difference.”
That view creates a clear line. Bradley rates Davis highly, but still ranks Stevenson above him until proven otherwise. In his eyes, ability alone is not enough at this level. The fight ahead of Davis is the one that determines whether he belongs at the top or just outside.
The resistance to the struggle is not linked to promoters or networks. It’s personal. Davis has already explained why he won’t face Stevenson, pointing to a relationship that goes beyond boxing. “No, I would never fight him,” Davis said in a previous interview. “It’s definitely deeper. His mom DMs me all the time. I’ve known Shakur almost his whole life.”
He also described Stevenson’s support during a difficult period in his life. “He called me, checked on me. He was there when nobody was there,” Davis said, detailing a bond that treated both fighters as off limits.
This attitude puts Bradley’s challenge in a different light. He’s not asking for a typical title fight. He asks one fighter to cross a line that both have already drawn.
Time can solve the problem without a decision. Davis has indicated he plans a move to welterweight for a title shot, which would remove him from Stevenson’s immediate path. If this happens, the moment where everything lines up can pass without the fight ever happening.
Right now the belt and the ranking sit in the same place. It doesn’t happen often. Bradley sees this as a situation that should be resolved in the ring, not left to what fighters prefer to avoid.
