Ahmad Shehzad slams Mohsin Naqvi and PCB over Pakistan’s 2026 campaign

The result Pakistanit is disastrous 2026 T20 World Cup The campaign reached a boiling point with the veteran opening batter Ahmed Shahzad begins a maddened critique of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and current board leadership. After Pakistan failed to reach the semi-finals for the second consecutive tournament and a historic 1-2 series defeat BangladeshShehzad claims that the national team has become a playground for a select group of underperforming stars.

Pakistan’s recent slump reached a new level in Dhaka, where Bangladesh secured their first home series win against the visitors in 11 years. The tour highlighted systematic failures: a batting collapse for 114 in the opening ODI and a failed 291-run chase in the decider. For Shehzad, these are not just technical errors; they are symptoms of the toxic star culture nurtured by the PCB at the cost of national pride.

Ahmed Shehzad takes aim at Mohsin Naqvi and PCB after Pakistan team’s collapse

Shehzad’s main complaint is the disproportionate power given to a small group of players. He claims that PCB is marketing certain individuals as global brands Pakistan Super League (PSL) despite not being able to perform on the international stage for the last seven years. According to Shehzad, these 6-8 guys and their agents essentially took over the selection and strategy of the team.

You provided all the sponsorships for those guys, supported them and invested in them. You gave them PSL captaincy right? You made them the thumb of Pakistan team. You have handed over the entire Pakistan cricket team to those 6 guys and their agents. And what have they done now? The fire they lit in the jungle, the fun and entertainment they spent, the pockets they filled, the pleasures they took did not give Pakistan any victory.“, – said Shehzad and pointed to the large financial investment and sponsorships for these special athletes.

He accused this core group of favoring self-interest and “parties in the jungle” on the trophies. The criticism is particularly striking as high-profile names Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Rizvan continues to struggle with consistency, prompting questions about whether the board is too afraid to hold its superstars accountable.

Shehzad calls the Naqvi regime a failure

The most damning part of Shehzad’s speech focused on the perceived impotence of the Naqvi administration. He described the current PCB as the weakest he had ever seen in his life, alleging that instead of enforcing discipline or bringing in new talent, the board is kneeling before the players. According to him, the lack of an institutional basis has allowed a culture of egos and blame games to flourish in the dressing room.

Despite the mounting losses, Shehzad points out that none of the senior players have claimed responsibility, instead preferring to spin stories through media cycles.

When you talk about any player, they start spinning stories. I have never seen Pakistan Cricket Board as weak in my life, as weak as this PCB. They have power, right? But when making a decision, they seem to kneel before their players. This PCB can do nothing. What they were supposed to do – bring in new faces – they didn’t. What they do is try to come up with a new gimmick after every incident, but the public has now caught on to their example.,” he added, adding that the PCB’s habit of pulling new tricks after every tournament failure is no longer fooling the fans. By failing to bring in new faces and break the monopoly of the current core, the board has left Pakistan cricket in a state of stagnation.

As Pakistan prepares for a grueling three-Test series against England from August 19, pressure has never been higher for Mohsin Naqvi to undergo major surgery, a term he used earlier.
