Aakash Chopra picks the Orange Cap winner in IPL 2026

Chopra backed Rajasthan Royals’ explosive opener Yashasvi Jaiswal Will emerge as leading scorer in IPL 2026. The former cricketer admitted that he has consistently beaten Jaiswal in previous seasons, but believes that this could finally be the year when the youngster really puts in a spectacular performance.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra said he expects Jaiswal to hit boundaries and potentially produce a season between 700 and 900 runs – something only a handful of batsmen in IPL history have achieved. His confidence comes not only from Jaiswal’s talent but also from his aggressive intent at the top of the order.

“Could this be Yashasvi Jaiswal’s year? I say before every IPL, could this be his year? Could this be the reason for 700-900 runs for this guy? I’ll say again, could it be his. I’ll focus on Yashasvi Jaiswal again because I love him so much.” Chopra said.

Jaiswal had an impressive IPL 2025 campaign and became the seventh highest run-scorer. He amassed 559 runs in 14 innings at an astonishing rate of 159.71, showing both consistency and attacking prowess. Despite missing out on the Orange Cap last season, his performances cemented his status as one of the most dangerous young strikers in the league.

Star accelerator to Purple Cap glory

On the bowling front, Chopra established the lead for Mumbai Indians jasprit bumrah As he picked for the Purple Cap in IPL 2026. However, he made an important condition – Bumrah must remain fit and available throughout the season.

Chopra admitted that managing Bumrah’s workload has often limited his presence in all matches, but insisted that the pacer can outperform the competition if he plays a full season.

“Who can be the highest wicket-taker? It’s interesting. Jasprit Bumrah doesn’t play all the matches. If he plays all the matches, he can be. If Bumrah plays all the matches, let’s make him Bumrah.” Chopra added.

Bumrah has had a solid IPL 2025 season, claiming 18 wickets in just 12 overs with an impressive economy rate of 6.67. Despite missing a few games, he still finished as the seventh highest goaltender, highlighting his efficiency and impact.

While discussing the other candidates, Chopra mentioned several top Indian pacers including Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Muhammad Sirajand Prasidh Krishna. He also briefly reviewed foreign options Mitchell Starc. However, he reverted to Bumrah as the top choice, citing his unparalleled ability to perform in high-pressure situations.

“Among the overseas ones, I’m thinking Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Mitchell Starc. Who could it be? Josh Hazlewood won’t play all the games. Let’s go with Bumrah.” Chopra added.
