Liberty Media are looking to change the MotoGP show and increase its international audience, and their latest idea is to show the bikes to the riders every weekend.
The American media company took over ownership of MotoGP last year and hopes to build on the meteoric success of Formula 1. So far, its plans to improve the sport’s global reach have been controversial.
Phillip Island will end the calendar in 2027 as a Freedom Exploring the ideas of street circuits. They want to make MotoGP a show for fans to enjoy and attend more races, and part of that could include more events on the weekend.

As a journalist Matt Oxley Of note, part of those negotiations included the freedom MotoGP teams wanted to have a show bike during the race.

Speaking on Oxley Bom MotoGP PodcastOxley shared that the sport’s owners would like to organize events during the Grands Prix similar to the 2026 race in Kuala Lumpur.
He said: “I’ve heard that Liberty/MotoGP Sports Entertainment, for example, want every team to have a race bike for every rider.
“What every team wants to have is, let’s say, it’s the Silverstone Grand Prix, and they can have an event in London that closes the London class on Wednesday.
What MotoGP rules do you want when Liberty Media changes?
“And maybe they’ll have test riders or something, maybe Johan Zarco on the Castrol Honda and Miller on the Pramac Yamaha doing the tires up and down the track.
“So you want a racing bike for every rider. This is a lot of money because it’s not just in motorcycles. Of course there will be last year’s bikes, but you need staff to take care of them.
“You don’t just push the start button. There’s a lot of cost involved in a run that doesn’t exist, so you negotiate on those types of things.”
