TaylorMade TP5 and TP5x Flamingo Pix: I can’t explain why this works, but it does

TaylorMade’s latest limited-edition Pix balls go all tropical because … why not?

I have no rational explanation why flamingo themed golf balls should work. Sharks? Of course, sharks are cold and mostly aggressive. Donuts? This is practically the canon of golf culture. Flamingos? Pink, one-legged, lawn ornaments?

And yet, here I am, looking forward to playing with the Flamingo balls. Maybe I should rephrase that. I’m really looking forward to hitting these golf balls when the courses open.

Anyway…

I suppose there is an argument to be made that there is a fine line between a good idea and being out of good ideas and perhaps TaylorMade TP5 AND TP5x Flamingo Pix drive that line. Honestly, I’m not entirely sure which side of that line Flamingo’s balls land on, but I don’t hate that they exist. At the very least, big pink birds are an improvement over cats.

The packaging is pure pastel fire

Credit where it’s due: TaylorMade nailed the presentation (as usual). of TP5 dozen boxes comes in sea foam green with a complete tropical beach scene – flamingo standing in the water, palm trees, sunset, the whole atmosphere. of TP5x gets a sand-pink treatment. The sleeves are matching. The TaylorMade script logo ties it all together with a retro-tropical aesthetic that looks like it belongs on a beach bar menu somewhere in the Keys.

Turn the box upside down and get “No beach balls. No splash.” Because even in heaven, performance matters. It’s shameless without trying too hard, which is exactly the tone you need when selling flamingo golf balls to fully realized grown men (or women for that matter).

I will say this: if you’re going to do a seemingly absurd innovation, commit to it – and TaylorMade did.

And the balls?

Under the flamingos, these are still TP5 AND TP5x golf balls. The same five-ply construction, the same Tour-proven performance that has made TaylorMade a legitimate player in the premium ball space. Flamingo Pix graphics are printed on the cover—little pink flamingos scattered across each ball—and they’re subtle enough that you won’t feel like you’re creating a Jimmy Buffett album cover.

If you already play TP5 OR TP5xyou know what you are getting. If you don’t, this probably isn’t what will convert you. If it is, may I politely suggest that you seek professional help?

If you’re in the market for a premium ball with flamingos on it, this is really your only option.

conclusion

Limited edition balls are a thing and TaylorMade keeps finding ways to make them interesting. of Flamingo Pix they won’t improve your short game or add distance off the tee, but they are kind of fun, which is more than I can say for my last round of golf.

I don’t know why this offer exists. But I don’t hate it.
