Distance still drives most driver purchases. It’s the longest club in the bag, and manufacturers spend a lot of time promising more ball speed, more carry and more total yardage.
In ours Most Wanted Driver Test 2026we measured performance throughout distance, accuracy and forgiveness using more than 20,000 shots from 35 testers. Accuracy in this test is built around two metrics: Shooting percentage (SS%) AND Playable Shot Percentage (PS%).
Straight shots are great, but playable shots are just as important. A car that ends up just off the fairway, but still gives you a clear approach, is much better than one that forces a punch.
When you start digging through the data, certain drivers stand out for their ability to keep the ball in play. They produce a high percentage of fair and playable shots. The catch is that some don’t quite keep up with the longer test drivers.
Here are three drivers from the 2026 test who excelled in accuracy but finished just behind the distance leaders.
Driver LA GOLF

The LA GOLF driver was the most accurate driver in the entire test of 2026.
He led the field in field goal percentage and produced strong field goal percentage. When you combine these two metrics, it becomes clear why this driver earned the highest accuracy score.
For players who prioritize finding free lanes, the data backs it up.
Where it falls behind the leaders is in distance. With one the distance score is 8.2 and the average total distance of 248.9 yardsdoesn’t quite match the ball speed and carry numbers produced by the taller drivers on the field.
That trade-off is worth noting, but it’s also one that many golfers are willing to accept if it means they’re dealing with more second shots from short grass.

of Tour Edge Exotics LS may be the most surprising driver on this list.
Low rpm models are usually built to go the distance, especially for faster movers. In this case, Exotics LS appeared as one of the the most accurate drivers on test.
Finished within the top tier for fairway percentage and playable percentage, producing a consistent pattern of drives that stayed in or near the fairway.
Despite the low-revving model, the distance numbers lagged behind the longer drivers on test. With one the distance score is 8.1 and the average total distance of 248.8 yardsit sits well below taller performers.

of Mizuno JPX One quietly produced some of the most playable discs throughout the test.
His field goal percentage is slightly below the top accuracy performers, but his field goal percentage is among the strongest in the field. This means that even when the ball doesn’t land in the fairway, it still tends to end up in a position where you can drive the ball toward the green.
Distance is where it loses ground to the leaders. of JPX One produced one average total distance of 248.9 yards and a distance score of 8.2leaving him far behind the longest test drivers.
That said, there may still be untapped potential depending on the player and the fit. For players who prioritize keeping the ball in play, a good fit can make the difference JPX One at the top of your list.
Final thoughts
The longest driver average in our 2026 test 255 meters total distance which places these models at approx six to seven yards shorter on average. If you’re constantly finding short grass instead of recovering from trees or thickets, that trade-off may be worth it.
Drivers who don’t fly that far aren’t always a bad thing. It just depends on what your game needs more.
