Bodo/Glimt shock Sporting CP with a dominant 3-0 win in the Champions League.
Bodo/Glimt produced a sensational performance at the Aspmyra Stadion on 11 March 2026, securing a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Portuguese giants Sporting CP in an enthralling UEFA Champions League match. Midfielder Sondre Fet emerged as a key figure, converting an early penalty to set the tone for the impressive win.
Heading into the match, Sporting CP held a stronger position in the Champions League standings with 10 points. Bodo/Glimt, with just two points from their previous games, faced a daunting task. The Norwegian champions aimed to restore pride and challenge the established European order in their territory.
The first half saw an intense battle for control. Sporting’s Morten Hjulmand was shown a yellow card in the 20th minute for unsportsmanlike conduct, indicating the physical nature of the game. Bodo/Glimt soon took advantage of their mounting pressure.
The home side broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute. A decisive move earned a penalty, which Sondre Fet calmly dispatched, sending the Aspmyra crowd into raptures. This crucial goal injected confidence into the Norwegian side.
Just before the break, Bodo/Glimt doubled their lead. After Jostein Gundersen received a yellow card in the 44th minute, Ole Didrik Blomberg struck in the first minute of injury time to extend the lead. Blomberg’s goal gave Glimt a comfortable cushion heading into the break.
At half-time, Sporting CP needed a major response to turn the tide. Coach Rúben Amorim probably demanded more offensive momentum from his side. Bodo/Glimt, for its part, wanted to maintain its intensity and defensive solidity.
Sporting made a triple substitution in the 63rd minute, bringing on J. Simoes, G. Vagiannidis and G. Catamo to try and inject fresh energy and creativity. However, the changes could not stop Bodo/Glimt’s momentum.
Bodo/Glimt sealed their memorable victory in the 71st minute. Kasper Høgh, who came on as a substitute, fired a well-timed goal, assisted by Jens Petter Hauge. The goal ended Sporting’s hopes of a comeback.
After his goal, Høgh himself received a yellow card for a foul in the 76th minute. Bodo/Glimt then made more substitutions, managing their lead and resting key players like Blomberg, Høgh and Fet in the closing stages.
The statistics underlined Bodo/Glimt’s deserved victory. They generated an impressive 2.44 expected goals (xG) compared to Sporting’s 0.51. Glimt recorded a total of 10 shots with 5 on target, while Sporting had 9 shots with just 2 on target. Although Sporting had slightly more possession (51%), Bodo/Glimt were much more clinical.
This impressive 3-0 win represents a historic result for Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League. Not only does it provide a massive morale boost, but it also serves as a strong statement of their ability on the European stage. For Sporting CP, the defeat is a major setback in their quest for progression.
