Hiking shoes or golf shoes? Our take on TRUE Linkswear’s OG3 High

of TRUE OG3 High it’s a unique golf shoe, to say the least.

When I opened the box, I wondered if I had ordered the wrong hiking boots. After a quick double take, I noticed the large “REAL” logo on the side of the shoe and realized I was actually wearing a golf shoe.

of OG3 High it’s labeled as a high top, but it’s actually an upper mid. Either way, it’s designed to be your go-to shoe in bad weather. If this describes where you live, read on.

The good ones

  • Waterproof” is an understatement.

TRUE Linkswear is headquartered in the Pacific Northwest, which receives more than five feet of rain each year. Reacting to that environment, TRUE does a great job of playing to their strengths and turning the bird over in the wet and miserable conditions.

I did everything without stepping into the OG3 High and my socks stayed drier than Nevada in July. There are three certain things in life: death, taxes and the OG3 High is incredibly waterproof.

TRUE Linkswear promotes the “TRUEdura” upper technology on the OG3’s product page, but I would like to see more in-depth explanations on the materials, construction and purpose of the “TRUEdura”.

The upper appears to be synthetic with heavier construction on the toe and heel. You can walk like crazy in these shoes. If you want your feet to be structurally secure with extra ankle support, OG3 High it’s big. If you have weak ankles, the OG3 High may be the best shoe to protect them.

The bad ones

  • I really, really i wish this was a spiked golf shoe.

of OG3 High it’s positioned as a weatherproof machine, but I can’t back it up for sure due to the choice of studless design. of OG3 High it’s labeled TRUE’s “most capable golf shoe yet,” but I’m hesitant to believe that knowing they have sharp options. OG3 High NEEDS spikes.

I haven’t experienced any fit issues, but about half of the reviews left on TRUE’s site noted some sort of fit issue. To be exact, 15 reviews stated that the fit was too small and one said that the fit was larger than expected. When nearly half of the reviews explain some sort of sizing issue, proceed with caution.

  • I felt fatigue in my heels after two hours.

The pillow is basic. The midsection of the Wanderlux is good, but the removable bed needs an upgrade for award-winning comfort. Having a durable upper with high-end waterproof technology is great, but it’s lost if the comfort is average. Don’t get me wrong, OG3 High it is not unpleasant. It’s just not on par with the shoes that win our testing every year when it comes to comfort and traction.

Wear the OG3 High if…

If you deal with terrible weather on the course, OG3 High is a good option. You will appreciate the upper midsole design which will inevitably keep your socks drier. If you hike, camp, or spend a lot of time outdoors in general, OG3 High it is a good choice. Buy this shoe whether you are planning to do more than just golf.

Final thoughts

In general, OG3 High it’s a solid shoe, but not a great one golf shoes.

Can’t recommend it for sure OG3 High for strictly golf, but I would feel comfortable offering it as an option for outsiders who also golf. If you live in a place with heavy rainfall, knock yourself out. If you don’t get a lot of rain and don’t spend a lot of time outside, look elsewhere for your next golf shoe.
