Devin Haney’s father and manager, Bill Haney, has indicated interest in a rematch with Ryan Garcia. Bill says Garcia has to submit to drug tests within 48 hours for a reunion with Devin to happen. That’s just one thing Ryan (24-1, 20 KOs) will have to agree to, but there’s expected to be a lot more.
Garcia has not responded to Bill’s demands for immediate registration with VADA, but he is likely to agree because he will want to show that he has nothing to hide.
Additionally, Garcia is interested in proving to the boxing world that he can beat former two-division world champion Haney while testing negative for drugs. Last April, Ryan tested positive for the banned PED Ostarine after winning a 12-round majority decision over Haney. The win was later overturned by the New York State Athletic Commission and changed to a no contest.
That made Devin happy, but did nothing to change the memories of the fans who witnessed Ryan’s one-sided dominance, which saw Haney dropped three times and seemingly saved by the referee in the seventh when he was badly injured is.
Bill posted on Instagram Live and told fans that Ryan must report for the drug testing within 48 hours. The way Bill spoke made it clear that he felt he and Devin were the A side. That might not sit too well with superstar Ryan Garcia, who is arguably the most popular fighter in the US. He is clearly more famous than Gervonta Davis.
Garcia expressed interest in fighting Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) again last weekend, and he says he’s training now to be ready for when that fight happens. This is the biggest money fight for both of them as there are many fans who want to see the two meet after their clash earlier this year on April 20 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
“We don’t duck fights or lawsuits. @RyanGarcia you have 48 hours to register with VADA for the rematch. Fair competition, proper standards. We’re always ready—are you? @Realdevinhaney stay focused, lawsuit or not. #No Excuses #Real Champions #VADA # Rematch “#TeamHaney
