Anthony and Bromell beat Lyles, surprise 1500m


STATEN ISLAND (USA, March 1). Noah Lyles didn’t qualify for the World Indoors as he finished third in 6.51 to beat Jordan Anthony 6.45 and Trayvon Bromell 6.47 in the men’s 60m on Day 2 of the US Indoors. Women’s 60m Jasius Sears 7.04 to 20 year old Mia Maxwell 7.13 PB and HS record and her twin sister Mariah Maxwell 7.14 PB. WR hurdler Khaleb McRae won the 400m in 45.01, followed by hurdler Chris Robinson in 45.36.

The women were slower in the 400m with Rosie Effiong in 51.53 ahead of the Paris People’s 51.65, but Bailey Lear 51.60 in the first race. Nathan Green 3:37.65 PB and Luke Hauser 3:37.67 with Vincent Siatt 3:37.73 1500m. The favorites won, with Jared Nugus fourth in 3:38.06 and Cole Hawker fifth in 3:38.08. Young talent Cooper Lutkenhaus did his part to win the 800m in 1:46.68, with Sean Dolan second in 1:47.16 (missing qualifying time) and Isiah Harris third in 1:47.22.

Addison Wiley improved her indoor PB to 1:59.43 to win the women’s 800m, followed by Valerie Tobias in 1:59.77. Nikki Hiltz won the women’s 1500m in 4:11.34 over Gracie Morris in 4:11.39. Long Jump Stephin McCarter 810 (he’s close to qualifying for Worlds) and Jeremiah Davis 808, only 6th Cordell Tinch 781 to qualify for Worlds. In the shot put, Roger Steen took the lead in 21.81 over WC holder Jordan Geist in 21.72, with Joe Kovacs next to qualify just 5th in 20.18. Jasmine Moore won the triple in 13.89 and Chloe Timberg won the 470 vault. Men’s high jumper Elaia Kosiba 224, which does not qualify for the world indoor event.
